Ever since the 1960s the matter of a bridge across the fjorden Esefjorden has been discussed:
Bridge across the Esefjorden or restauring the road with securing the avalanches?
In March 2013 the political parties in Balestrand agreed to check out both alternatives. Only the bridge was chosen.
